Some Celtic fans were intrigued by Jeremie Frimpong’s move to Liverpool this summer.
Back in 2019, without a single senior appearance to his name, Celtic signed Frimpong from Manchester City’s academy.
The fresh-faced teenager made an immediate impact and proved to be a success in the colours of Celtic, before moving on to Bayer Leverkusen, where he won the Bundesliga title under Xabi Alonso.
But in the summer, Frimpong returned to British shores to sign for Liverpool, and despite main man Trent Alexander-Arnold leaving for Real Madrid, things haven’t gone to plan for the Netherlands international, as Steven Gerrard discussed.
What did you make of Jeremie Frimpong’s Celtic spell? And do you think he will succeed in the Premier League?

Steven Gerrard on Jeremie Frimpong’s Celtic spell amid Liverpool struggles
If Celtic thought they had issues, then it’s probably not as bad as Liverpool because they have spent hundreds of millions to decline on and off the pitch this term.
As the Mohamed Salah saga takes centre stage, Gerrard spoke about Liverpool’s right wing, and now he sees Frimpong as a ‘wing-back’, as he told TNT Sports.
The former Champions League winner noted coming up against Frimpong in Glasgow, and how he ‘has it all to do’ to become Liverpool’s number one right-back ahead of Conor Bradley, as Arne Slot tries to sort his struggling team out.

“Frimpong is a wing-back,” stated Gerrard. “Conor Bradley is the number one right-back right now. If you had to pick an XI right now. He’s the number one.
“Frimpong has it all to do; with all due respect, he’s done great at Leverkusen. He was up at Celtic, and we used to put Ryan Kent up against him and challenge him for a few years.
“I know what he’s all about, but Frimpong has it all to do.”
Celtic players who have succeeded after leaving
Many Celtic heroes of the past have succeeded in Glasgow, but then struggled after heading for the exit door.
Kyogo Furuhashi is finding life tough in England’s second tier with Birmingham City, Moussa Dembele didn’t exactly pull up trees when he left, whilst Odsonne Edouard couldn’t get going in the Premier League.
But then some continued to shine or are still going to the next level.
Here are a select few, and you could include Frimpong in that list because he was immense at Leverkusen, and has only joined Liverpool.
Virgil van Dijk (One of the world’s best)
Matt O’Riley (Playing for Marseille in the Champions League)
Victor Wanyama (Became a Champions League regular with Tottenham)
Jeremie Frimpong (Three trophies at Leverkusen, including the Bundesliga title)
Mohamed Elyounoussi (Won the double with Copenhagen, now in the Champions League)
