Report: Everton 'offered chance' to sign former target who was once touted at £100million

Everton’s recent transfer links have made it known that David Moyes is absolutely keen to sign a striker in the upcoming January window.

The Premier League table currently has Everton in seventh place, having won four games from their last five in the league – and almost from nowhere, a European campaign appears to be on the cards for the Toffees if they can sign well.

David Moyes will be keen to strengthen further in the winter market, aiming to take his side into Europe for the first time in eight years, an amazing achievement given they’ve only been at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for a few months.

And an opportunity may have presented itself in the form of Brighton star Evan Ferguson – with reports suggesting that he has been ‘offered’ to the Toffees after a poor loan spell abroad.

Everton have been ‘offered’ Evan Ferguson loan after poor Roma spell

The report by TEAMtalk states that Evan Ferguson has been offered to a host of clubs ahead of the January transfer window, with Roma keen to end his loan spell early.

The Republic of Ireland star joined Roma at the start of the season on loan, but just one goal in 14 appearances for the Giallorossi means that his loan spell has not been successful.

As a result, Roma are already looking at potential replacements including Everton target Joshua Zirkzee, forcing Brighton to come to a decision in January.

With that in mind, Ferguson’s camp are looking at their own options and clubs in England have been approached with a view to a deal – despite Ferguson previously being touted at £100million.

Everton are the first club named, thanks to their previous interest in Ferguson, and having made checks over the summer, they opted instead to sign Thierno Barry.

Although it’s thought that the club are relaying their confidence in Barry to develop further, a new striker hasn’t been ruled out so Ferguson is a player for them to keep tabs on – especially given he’s currently plying his trade under The Friedkin Group in Rome.

Everton having regular goals in their attack could make them Champions League contenders

Everton have struggled for goals this season, especially in their striking ranks, but that has improved in recent games.

Three goals against Nottingham Forest, two against Fulham, and goals in each of their games against Manchester United, Newcastle United and Bournemouth have shown that the Toffees know where the net is.

Although Barry has been warned that his first-team spot may still be under threat despite scoring his first goal at the weekend, Moyes will be keen to use him going forward.

But if those goals don’t change for the good and the need for a striker is still prevalent in the latter stages of the transfer window, Ferguson could be turned to as a last-chance saloon.

Seamus Coleman once said that Ferguson could score 20 goals in a Premier League season and the Toffees will be hoping he can replicate half of that if he was to move to Merseyside in January.
