Anthony Davis trade buzz debunked for Pistons

Despite reports heavily linking the Pistons to Anthony Davis, sources say Detroit hasn't held trade talks and is unlikely to pursue him before the February deadline.

The Detroit Pistons are reportedly one of three teams expected to pursue Anthony Davis before the February trade deadline. However, according to Omari Sankofa II of the Detroit Free Press, the team has not had any discussions with the Dallas Mavericks.

"A source with knowledge of the Pistons' thinking told the Free Press they haven't had discussions with the Mavericks regarding a trade for Davis," Sankofa reported.

Based on private conversations and public comments from the front office and coaching staff, it seems unlikely that the Pistons are—or will be—among the teams actively looking to acquire him, according to the same report.

ESPN reported on Dec. 9 that the Pistons, along with the Toronto Raptors and Atlanta Hawks, were expected to be suitors for AD.

Evan Sidery of Forbes noted that the Pistons could potentially pursue him by offering Jaden Ivey, Tobias Harris, another role player, and draft picks.

Now in his 14th season, Davis is averaging 19.6 points, 10.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 1.6 blocks, and 1.2 steals per game. He has appeared in only 10 games this season after missing several weeks with a left calf strain.

Davis is currently making $54.1 million this season, $58.5 million next season, and holds a player option for $62.8 million in the 2027–28 season, when he will be 35.
