Saturday is a big day for basketball in the state of Oklahoma.
Oklahoma State and Oklahoma are set to compete in a doubleheader with the school's men's and women's basketball teams. Both games are being played in the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City.
On the men's side, the Oklahoma State Cowboys are 9-0 and are looking to pickup another key nonconference win to boost their resume. They played the Sooners last season in OKC for the first time as nonconference foes, with Oklahoma winning 80-65.
This season, the Cowboys enter as the better team with Oklahoma at No. 70 in the NCAA NET rankings while Oklahoma State is at No. 51. Head coach Steve Lutz doesn't care about records going into Saturday's rivalry game, a game that he got his first taste of last season. He knows what a win, or loss, against the Sooners would mean for his program.
"It means so much to so many people," Lutz said of Bedlam on Tuesday. "It's funny how our fans and our friends and people that you know and love and are dear to you go, 'Man it's great Coach, you guys are 9-0, No. 27 in the AP Poll, but if you lose this weekend, nobody really cares about all that other stuff.' I get it. I get it...I damn sure experienced it last year when we got our butts beat in Paycom."
This year's team looks quite different, with only two returners from the squad that reached the NIT Quarterfinals.
