A Chelsea star has been linked with a move to both Leeds United and Everton in the January transfer window.

Chelsea will be heading into the January transfer window full of optimism, as Enzo Maresca has shown this season that his side can compete with the best. They drew against Arsenal and have managed to show that they are comfortable in the Champions League.

However, injuries have been a problem for Chelsea this season, both in defence and attack. Liam Delap was injured for several months before returning earlier in December. He has now suffered another injury, forcing Maresca to play Joao Pedro out of position.

With Club World Cup fatigue potentially hitting as we move into the second half of the season, injuries could become a real issue for Maresca. If that is the case, Chelsea should make sure they don’t make any major sales of attackers in the January window.

Chelsea could sell Tyrique George in January

Chelsea winger Tyrique George has performed well when given the chance by Maresca, but he looks like he could be on the way out in the January window. George has made 10 appearances in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

According to TeamTalk, George wants to leave in January, and Chelsea is expected to allow an exit for the right price. The report says that Leeds United and Everton are eyeing up a move for the 19-year-old wonderkid, and that Fulham, who were keen on him in the summer, remain interested.

George can play all across the front line. He is most natural on the left wing, but has also featured as a right-winger and a striker for Chelsea. Seeing as Delap has suffered an injury, George could get more of a chance to feature up front to help replace the English striker, especially with fixture congestion around Christmas beginning to hit.

Chelsea need to learn from mistakes and keep George

Chelsea’s striker depth is an issue at the moment, which seems a strange situation considering they were so willing to get rid of Nicolas Jackson in the summer transfer window.

Furthermore, they had to re-call Marc Guiu from his loan at Sunderland after Delap’s first injury, and still look thin on the ground when it comes to forward options for Maresca at the moment.

So, the Blues have to learn from previous mistakes and not sell one of their talented attackers, as he can help address the depth issue. They saw Noni Madueke and Jackson leave in the summer, and now find themselves in need of more attackers.

With that in mind, why would they allow George to leave in January, as the 19-year-old has shown that he is capable of performing well in both the Champions League and the Premier League? He could help replace Delap whilst he is out, and even more so when fatigue from the Club World Cup kicks in at Stamford Bridge. It seems they haven’t learned their lesson.
