Topics Discussed

Following a report from earlier in the week from Sam that hinted at a 3-5 year rebuild for Sacramento, Kings GM Scott Perry refuted that timeline during an interview with The Drive Guys on Sactown Sports 1140

Sam says there has been some internal messaging in the Kings organization about establishing a timeline.

How does this potential timeline sit with Sacramento’s veterans who could be on the move?

Sam says to his knowledge, nobody on the Kings has asked for a trade to this point: “There is an understanding that it is going to take a while.”

Amick says that Domantas Sabonis “is being patient” through Sacramento’s struggles.

Could the Kings start rattling off trades come next week when most players become trade-eligible?

Sam says the Milwaukee Bucks “have done some research on Zach LaVine.”

How are the Sacramento Kings veterans handling the rough start?

During Sam Amick’s interview with Carmichael Dave and Jason Ross had some intriguing notes on several Kings veterans.

DeMar DeRozan, who has just $10 million of his $25 million salary for the 2026-27 season guaranteed, is expected to be in his final season with Sacramento, regardless of what happens. Amick adds that, among current Kings veterans, DeRozan is the most likely to have trade suitors due to his contract.

Regarding All-NBA center Domantas Sabonis, Amick says Sabonis is “being patient” amid the rough start. Sabonis is due to make $40+ million each season through 2027-28, making it unlikely that he is moved in the short term.

Zach LaVine, who has been under a microscope this season after being acquired in the De’Aaron Fox trade last season, hasn’t had the smoothest first full year in a Sacramento Kings uniform.

Sam reports that the Milwaukee Bucks have done some research on LaVine as they evaluate their future–with or without superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo, who may request a trade before the NBA Trade Deadline.

It’s still early in the NBA season, but the Sacramento Kings are already being linked to Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga–again.

The Sacramento Kings (6-18) are off to one of their worst starts in franchise history, while the Warriors (13-12) have continued to hover around the .500 mark as they search for stability amid injury troubles to key players like Stephen Curry and Al Horford.

While Sacramento and Golden State continue to progress into the regular season on different paths, those paths may converge as discussions about Kuminga’s future heat up in the coming weeks and months.

Jonathan Kuminga, who was a hot topic of conversation during the offseason, was courted by the Kings in restricted free agency, but sign-and-trade talks with the Warriors never came to fruition.

Instead, the 23-year-old forward inked a two-year, $46 million (club option for 2026-27) deal to return to Golden State, although it is widely speculated that Kuminga inked the short-term deal as a way of ensuring he gets back to free agency sooner rather than later.

According to ESPN’s Anthony Slater, Jonathan Kuminga felt forced to accept the team-friendly deal, with negotiations leaving bitter feelings on both sides.

On the heels of last season, where Kuminga and Golden State head coach Steve Kerr often made headlines due to the former top-ten pick’s lack of playing time, a similar conversation has come to the forefront over the past couple of days.
