Mohamed Salah was sent ‘into a rage’ after the signing of Florian Wirtz in the summer, according to German analysts amid the Liverpool star’s bitter fallout with the club and manager Arne Slot.

Salah looks to have played his last game for Liverpool " href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2025/12/liverpool-transfer-news-david-ornstein-mohamed-salah-sale" target="_blank">looks to have played his last game for Liverpool after accusing the club of ‘throwing him under the bus’ and admitting that his relationship with Slot was broken.

Liverpool have struggled for form this season and have lost nine of their last 16 matches in all competitions despite spending more than more than €480 million on players during the summer, including breaking the British transfer record to bring Wirtz in for €125m.

Wirtz has also come under fire for his performances since his arrival, having failed to provide a goal or assist in his first 14 Premier League matches and his signing is partially the reason Salah has ‘become the enemy of his own dressing room’, according to a German analyst.

A comment piece by BILD reporter Axel Hesse" href="https://sportbild.bild.de/fussball/internationaler-fussball/meine-meinung-salah-ist-der-feind-in-der-kabine-6937c0f3c3b4893a9e2b29b0#fromWall" target="_blank">BILD reporter Axel Hesse has suggested that Salah ‘does not care about his teammates’, having ‘stayed silent’ when Wirtz and Slot were dealing with substantial criticism.

Hesse goes on to say that Liverpool’s decision to ‘usher in a future’ with Wirtz as their leading attacker, to which Salah ‘plays no part in’, has sent the Egyptian into a rage, prompting his outburst last weekend.

Liverpool set to move forward with Wirtz as Salah edges towards Saudi Pro League transfer

While the assessment of Wirtz and Salah’s relationship is largely based on opinion, Liverpool have failed to find chemistry with their new-found attack so far this season.

However, although Wirtz has failed to provide the objective goal and assist figures so far this season, Liverpool are still believed to be happy with the 22-year-old’s overall performances and ability in the team, with a belief that his luck will eventually turn.

Instead, Liverpool have had more concerns about Alexander Isak, whose €145m signing later in the summer eclipsed the record arrival of Wirtz, yet the Swedish star has scored just once in eight league matches.

The situation has also left Hugo Ekitike often featuring from the bench despite being the club’s top scorer, while Salah has played just 45 minutes across Liverpool’s last four matches after also having a poor start to the season.

The continued struggles throughout Liverpool’s squad led to Salah’s claim that he was ‘thrown under the bus’ after being dropped but his comments eventually led to him being left out of the Champions League win over Inter this week and he is also unlikely to feature this weekend against Brighton." href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2025/12/fabrizio-romano-transfer-news-salah-out-vs-brighton-alonso-sack-latest-araujos-special-trip" target="_blank">he is also unlikely to feature this weekend against Brighton.

With Salah set to head off to AFCON after the Brighton match, it is expected that Liverpool will negotiate with teams in Saudi Arabia for his sale" href="https://www.footballtransfers.com/en/transfer-news/uk-premier-league/2025/12/mo-salah-transfer-news-liverpool-handed-hope-as-expert-drops-saudi-pro-league-bomb" target="_blank">it is expected that Liverpool will negotiate with teams in Saudi Arabia for his sale, marking a sad end to the career of a club legend, although giving Slot the platform to move forward in a new era with Wirtz as his new focal point.
