Chelsea and Arsenal fall behind in race to sign Polish midfielder

Chelsea return to Premier League action on Saturday when they host high-flying Everton.

The Blues enjoyed a fine November, beating both Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona, but have since failed to win any of their last three games across all competitions.

Last time out Enzo Maresca’s side were beaten 2-1 by Atalanta in the Champions League, having been held to a goalless draw by Bournemouth in their previous Premier League encounter.

Maresca will hope to see his side get the better of the Toffees at Stamford Bridge, but in the meantime it has emerged that the West London outfit have fallen behind in the race to sign a highly rated young midfielder.

As per TEAMtalk, Chelsea have fallen behind Premier League rivals Manchester City in the race to sign Jagiellonia midfielder Oskar Pietuszewski.

The report claims that the Citizens have leapfrogged both Chelsea and Arsenal in the race to sign the 17-year-old, who is regarded as one of the most promising young talents produced by Poland in recent years.

Ahead of the January transfer window, it has been revealed that three of the Premier League’s biggest teams are monitoring the teenage sensation.

Pietuszewski is a product of Jagiellonia’s youth system and has already made more than 50 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring four goals.

According to the report, Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal have all sent scouts to watch the young midfielder in action on several occasions this season, with the player impressing.

Polish side Jagiellonia will demand a fee in the region of £13 million to allow the midfielder to depart the club, the report suggests, which would shatter their current outgoing transfer record.
