Two West contenders emerge as new interested teams for Chris Paul

Per reports, both the Rockets and the Timberwolves have a level of interest in a potential deal for Chris Paul.

As Chris Paul's time with the Los Angeles Clippers has come to an abrupt end, two Western Conference powerhouses reportedly have a desire to acquire the future Hall of Famer.

Minnesota Timberwolves / Schedule

According to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, both the Houston Rockets and the Minnesota Timberwolves have expressed a "level of interest" in trading for Paul.

After announcing that this season would be his last, Paul was infamously sent home by the Clippers last week. Leading to the unexpected event, reports suggest that there were leadership issues between the former star point guard and head coach Ty Lue.

Amid backlash over the treatment they made toward their former franchise centerpiece, it was reported that the Clippers will look to partner with Paul's camp to find a new destination for him, as the 40-year-old will be eligible to be traded by Dec. 15 after inking a one-year, $3.6 million deal this past offseason.

Both the Rockets and the T-Wolves are the latest teams that have the intent to go after Paul's services, and the two have a common need to address.

The Rockets, which were notably Paul's team from 2017 to 2019, have a key hole in the point guard spot since the season-ending ACL injury of Fred VanVleet before the season began. Despite this, they remained competitive as a Top-3 team in the West with a 15-6 record behind Kevin Durant and Alperen Sengun's lead.

With Mike Conley already 38 and having declining numbers, the Wolves are also on the lookout to find a reliable floor general that can help them compete.

Although his numbers are at a career worst this season in points (2.9), assists (3.3) minutes (14.3), it is intriguing that Paul still commands interest around the league.
