Pelicans set 'extremely high' price for Jones, Murphy as Lakers aim deal

According to Stein, the Pelicans have placed a large price tag on both Jones and Murphy that will discourage trades from other teams.

In the wake of the constant monitoring around them, the New Orleans Pelicans are firm in their commitment to both Herb Jones and Trey Murphy III.

"It's likewise believed that the price point to convince New Orleans to part with either Murphy or Jones — swingmen who both possess favorable contracts on top of their highly desired skill sets — is extremely high and intended to discourage inquiries," NBA insider Marc Stein wrote.

As New Orleans has been struggling this season with the league-worst record, the two of Jones and Murphy have been drawing significant noise around the league for potential deals.

The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the key few teams frequently being linked to the two, as the ball club seeks an important addition to strengthen their weak defensive presence.

But with this recent report, the Lakers and other teams can only move on and find other trade pieces elsewhere, as the Pelicans seem to be unwilling to part ways with the two.

Jones, the Pels' ace defender, is averaging 9.9 points and 1.6 steals this season. Meanwhile, Murphy III is enjoying his best year with 21.0 points and career highs in rebounds (6.4), assists (3.6) and steals (1.7).
