The star forward told New York Post's Brian Lewis that he would love to stick around Brooklyn and continue building with the team's young group.
"I love it here,” Porter said. “I love the staff, I love the energy of practice. Everyone gets along and has great vibes and great energy around the facility. So whatever team wants and appreciates what I bring to the table, then that’s where I want to be. And I feel like they do here.
After six seasons and winning an NBA championship in 2023, Porter Jr. was dealt by the Denver Nuggets this past offseason to the Brooklyn Nets for Cam Johnson.
His arrival in Brooklyn allowed him to average career highs this season in points (25.8), rebounds (7.6) and assists (3.2) across 19 games, becoming an early All-Star candidate.
But with the Nets (6-17) fully embracing their rebuild direction as one of the worst teams in the NBA, Porter Jr. is in an uncertain spot regarding the team's long-term plans.
Regardless, Porter Jr. expressed his full commitment to the team's vision while maintaining his desire to become a part of it.
“I don’t know their long-term plans; that’s above my pay grade," he said. "But any good, successful team, you need a mix of young, developing guys with unlimited energy, and you need some older guys that have been there and done that and can hand it down and teach the young guys. So any team that thinks they’re going to win at a high level with only young players, it doesn’t really happen.
"But like I said, if they want me here, I’d love to be here.”
