Red Bull chief gives verdict on Jurgen Klopp to Real Madrid as La Liga giants eye former Liverpool boss

Liverpool supporters have been dreaming of a potential return for former boss Jurgen Klopp to help the team out of their current rut.

With Arne Slot facing pressure for his job, some have pointed to the legendary German as the perfect interim manager to step in and save the Reds’ season.

For the time being, that looks desperately unlikely to happen. Liverpool are fully behind Slot, and there is extreme doubt whether Klopp would agree on a return regardless.

The 58-year-old has been enjoying life without every day football management, taking on a role as Red Bull’s Global Head of Football Development.

That has not stopped Klopp being linked with a comeback, however, with Real Madrid the latest club to be supposedly eyeing the Liverpool icon. With Xabi Alonso under pressure at the Bernabeu, Klopp has emerged as a potential candidate, and Red Bull boss Oliver Mintzlaff has now addressed the rumours.

Jurgen Klopp named as Real Madrid ‘candidate’

Liverpool supporters are currently taking an interest in goings on in Madrid as they ponder whether Alonso could replace Slot.

Despite another defeat on Wednesday – this time against Manchester City – Alonso is keeping his job for the time being.

Reports suggest that that could change very quickly with a bad result at the weekend, though, and according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Klopp would become a factor if Alonso does get the boot.

“Xabi Alonso is expected to be given at least the match on Sunday in Alaves,” Plettenberg posted on X.

“Understand in the event of a dismissal (which Real Madrid are keen to avoid), Jurgen Klopp is among the candidates.”

Red Bull chief suggests Klopp is not interested in Madrid job

Ever since leaving Liverpool, it has been inevitable to see Klopp linked with all sorts of managerial roles.

However, the Premier League-winning boss has always maintained that he is happy in his new life. This has been echoed by Mintzlaff, who is the managing director of Red Bull.

“Jurgen has made it clear that he doesn’t want to be a coach at the moment,” he said on Thursday via journalist Seb Stafford-Bloor.

“Whether that changes at some point in his life, of course, is possible. But I can see how passionate he is about this job, how many ideas he has, and how much he wants to develop further. Therefore, I’m completely relaxed.”

It would certainly be a change in approach to see Klopp end up at Real Madrid. Nevertheless, he surprised many in his homeland by taking a job with Red Bull. Klopp will do whatever he feels, and while it seems unlikely, seeing him take the reins at the Bernabeu should not be totally ruled out.
