Mohamed Salah journeyed to London for a heart-to-heart with former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson amid ongoing uncertainty over his future at Anfield.

Salah was excluded from the Reds' squad for their Champions League victory against Inter Milan and sought counsel from his ex-skipper on Wednesday as rumours of a January transfer loom. The 33-year-old winger's tenure at Liverpool is teetering on the edge after he lambasted Arne Slot in a fiery interview last Saturday.

Salah accused his gaffer of side-lining him, a move he perceived as being "thrown under the bus". Despite this, Liverpool's top brass have backed Slot's decision to expel him from the squad, and interest in Salah from clubs in the Saudi Pro League is mounting as the January transfer window approaches.

A face-off between Slot and Salah is expected in the coming days before the latter flies off to represent Egypt in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Saudi outfits Al-Hilal, Al-Qadisah and Neom are all vying for Salah's signature, while American teams San Diego and Chicago Fire are also keeping tabs on the situation.

The trio of Saudi clubs will undoubtedly be intrigued by Salah's movements on Wednesday, as snaps showed the Reds goal machine dining with Henderson in a west London eatery.

The former team-mates were spotted enjoying lunch at Scalini in Chelsea by an observant bystander. Both players donned face masks and hats in an attempt to fly under the radar, but Salah's questioning of Henderson during their 90-minute meal didn't escape notice, reports the Mirror.

The report hints Salah was inquiring about Henderson's stint with Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia. The England midfielder bid farewell to Liverpool in July 2023 and embarked on a controversial and short-lived six-month journey with Al-Ettifaq, then under the management of Steven Gerrard.

His Middle Eastern adventure ended in January 2024 when he mutually agreed to terminate his contract, returning to the Premier League via Brentford after a brief spell at Ajax. Henderson and Salah, who shared the Liverpool dressing room for six years, remain good friends.

While it remains unclear what the pair discussed, their meeting comes at a pivotal moment for Salah as he contemplates his next move ahead of the January transfer window.

Liverpool are reportedly open to discussions about his future, considering Salah's hefty £350,000 weekly wage and contract that runs until June 2027.

Given the financial stakes, a move to Saudi Arabia seems the most plausible exit strategy. Liverpool turned down a £150million bid from Al-Ittihad in September 2023, but the Kingdom has been persistently wooing Salah since then.
