Two months ago, we covered claims from Ecuador that Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea are in the picture to sign Independiente del Valle’s Patrik Mercado.
On November 19th, journalist María José Flores reported Wolves have carried out advance talks to sign him. She also explained Independiente del Valle need at least €5.96m to sell him in the winter market.
Two days later, Independiente del Valle sporting director Luis Fernando Saritama said talks have taken place to sell Mercado.
Bolavip reports the 22-year-old is ‘most likely’ to change clubs in January and has a firm option of moving to the Premier League.
Rob Edwards’ side, Chelsea, Benfica and Braga are his interested parties. It’s claimed Wolves are the most interested club and are currently leading the race to sign the midfielder.
The Ecuador international has a contract until December 2027 and Transfermarkt values him at €5m.
According to the report, Mercado could be Independiente del Valle’s next big sale. Bolavip states the Wolves target could leave the Ecuadorian club for €9m+. This is at least €3m more than what was reported last month.
Although Wolves are in pole position, there’s no mention of whether they are ready to spend the €9m needed.
