Liverpool’s Premier League clash with Brighton this weekend has been overshadowed by one storyline: the Mohamed Salah situation. The Egyptian star’s future at Anfield under intense scrutiny following his public outburst and subsequent omission from the Champions League squad against Inter Milan. Salah is scheduled to depart for Morocco immediately after to represent Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, making it potentially his last appearance for the club before the January transfer window opens. Reports have suggested the 33-year-old will attend Anfield to bid farewell to supporters.
The controversy has reignited speculation about Salah’s future, with Saudi Pro League clubs circling once again. A representative from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) stated on December 9 that they are “closely monitoring Salah’s situation” and believe a transfer could occur, either through a loan or by acquiring his contract. Omar Mugharbel, the chief executive of the Saudi Pro League, confirmed that Salah is “for sure” one of their transfer targets.
Salah was left out of the 19-man party that travelled to Italy following his explosive interview after last Saturday’s 3-3 Premier League draw at Leeds United. After being named as a substitute for the third consecutive match, the Egyptian claimed he was being “thrown under the bus” by Liverpool and said his relationship with head coach Arne Slot had broken down. Slot later suggested Salah might need to initiate a conversation to resolve the issue.
Now speaking in his pre-Brighton press conference, Arne Sl0t has revealed whether Salah will feature:
“I will have a conversation with Mo this morning, the outcome of that conversation determines how it will look tomorrow.”
“What I need is a conversation with him and the next time I speak about Mo should be with him and not in here. There’s not much more I can say. I speak to him today and the outcome determines how things will look tomorrow.”
“You can try in multiple ways but I just said the next time I speak about him should be with him. I think there’s been a lot of conversations since the last week between his representatives and ours.”
