Liverpool handed boost before Brighton game as Arne Slot provides Cody Gakpo and Wataru Endo update

Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa has recovered from illness and is available for selection against Brighton this weekend, but there are still several players absent through injury.

Alexander Isak picked up a knock in the first half against Inter Milan midweek, Arne Slot says, and he could miss the visit of the Seagulls. The Swede was paired with Hugo Ekitike midweek and wasn't particularly effective, but might now have to sit out the Premier League clash on Saturday.

Cody Gakpo has a muscle injury, Slot confirmed in his press conference, with Wataru Endo having an issue with his ankle. They could be missing for "weeks", though no exact date has been confirmed for a possible return.

Mohamed Salah, meanwhile, is set to hold showdown talks with Slot today ahead of potentially returning to the squad to face Brighton. The Egyptian's explosive interview last weekend meant he missed the trip to Inter Milan midweek.

"I will have a conversation with Mo this morning," Slot said. "What I need is a conversation with him and the next time I speak about Mo should be with him and not in here.

"There's not much more I can say. I speak to him today and the outcome determines how things will look tomorrow.

"You can try in multiple ways but I just said the next time I speak about him should be with him. I think there's been a lot of conversations since the last week between his reps and ours."

Slot refused to be drawn on whether Salah would need to apologize. With several injury issues, though, he admitted he is glad, in a way, that Liverpool is out of the League Cup.

"I think it is helpful in the weeks ahead that we don't play as many games until now," he said.

"We've had to do it three times. I am almost happy we are out of the League Cup. We have 13 outfield players with Premier League experience and we had to go Arsenal away on Tuesday after so many games.

"Maybe some can understand better why I made this lineup against Palace. It wasn't good for me but I did it for the team.

"Sometimes players need rest... Dom, Ibou, Virgil, Ryan; so many minutes. So good for them that we go to a run where it is one week rest in between and players will come back from injuries and there is more to choose from."
