Brighton and Hove Albion 2025 review: Who has delivered, who has flopped and transfer latest
Liverpool vs Brighton in the Premier League from Anfield - Saturday, 3pm
Fabian Hurzeler confirmed Brighton striker Stefanos Tzimas has been ruled out for the season with an ACL injury.
The 19-year-old Greek striker sustained the injury in the first half of Albion’s 4-3 loss to Aston Villa at the Amex Stadium. Tzimas missed the 1-1 draw against West Ham last weekend and Hurzeler now expects the £22m summer arrival to return for pre-season.
It’s a huge blow for club and player as Tzimas was just starting to find his feet in the Premier League and scored his first top flight goal in the 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest.
“It is not good news,” said Hurzler in his press conference ahead of the trip to face Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.
“We has already started his rehab andwe hope he will come back stronger and fitter than ever.”
On the plus side, star winger will be available for selection having missed the last nine matches with an ankle injury. Mitoma, 28, has not featured for Brighton since their 3-1 win at Chelsea.
“The pain has gone and he will be an option,” said Hurzeler. Brighton have used multiple options to cope with the absence of Mitoma. Maxim De Cuyper, Ferdi Kadioglu and Diego Gomez have all played on the left and Hurzeler is delighted to have Mitoma back to add to his options. “This is the situation we wanted,” said the German. “We want players fighting to start.”
James Milner is back from injury
Tommy Watson and and former Liverpool man James Milner will also return from injuries. Milner has not played since the 4-2 loss at Manchester United due to a muscular injury and Watson has missed the last six with a “small issue.”
Watson has been used sparingly since his summer arrival from Sunderland and is yet to start in the Premier League for the Seagulls.
Midfielder Yasin Ayari is also available after missing the last two matches and Carlos Baleba is also an option for his last Premier League match before jetting off to the AFCON with Cameroon.
Experienced winger Solly March was spotted in training this winger and Hurzeler expects to have him back in two-weeks time.
