Liverpool rocked by new Alexander Isak injury worry as Arne Slot offers update

Liverpool winger Federico Chiesa has shaken off illness and is in contention for Saturday's clash with Brighton, though Arne Slot still has several injury concerns to contend with - including a new problem for Alexander Isak. The Swedish centre-forward has sustained a knock, according to Slot, and may be unavailable for the Seagulls' visit.

Isak, who partnered Hugo Ekitike in midweek without much success, could now be sidelined for the Premier League fixture. Cody Gakpo is dealing with a muscle problem, Slot revealed at his press conference, whilst Wataru Endo is troubled by an ankle complaint. Both players face a spell on the sidelines potentially lasting "weeks", although no specific timeframe has been given for their comebacks.

Meanwhile, Mohamed Salah is expected to meet with Slot today for crucial discussions ahead of a possible return to the squad for the Brighton match. The Egyptian missed the midweek trip to Inter Milan following his controversial interview last weekend.

"I will have a conversation with Mo this morning," Slot said. "What I need is a conversation with him and the next time I speak about Mo should be with him and not in here.

"There's not much more I can say. I speak to him today and the outcome determines how things will look tomorrow. You can try in multiple ways but I just said the next time I speak about him should be with him.

"I think there's been a lot of conversations since the last week between his reps and ours." Slot refused to be drawn on whether Salah would need to apologise to him. With several injury issues, though, he admitted he is somewhat glad Liverpool aer not in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

"I think it is helpful in the weeks ahead that we don't play as many games until now," he said. "Have many teams played three games in seven days this season?

"We've had to do it three times. I am almost happy we are out of the League Cup. We have 13 outfield players with Premier League experience and we had to go Arsenal away on Tuesday after so many games.

"Maybe some can understand better why I made this lineup against Palace. It wasn't good for me but I did it for the team.

"Sometimes players need rest... Dom, Ibou, Virgil, Ryan; so many minutes. So good for them that we go to a run where it is one week rest in between and players will come back from injuries and there is more to choose from."
