Chesterfield will make a decision on Will Dickson’s loan from Manchester City next week.

The young striker has been on loan from Pep Guardiola’s side since the end of August and his time at the Spireites is due to come to an end on January 5. The 21-year-old has made 13 starts in all competitions, scoring once and assisting once.

Dickson’s main highlight came in the 4-1 home win against Newport County earlier in the season when he ran from inside his own half before cutting inside and finishing low into the net.

Although he has started three times in the EFL Trophy, he has found regular minutes harder to come by in the league, starting just twice. He has not started a League Two match since the 6-2 hammering at Colchester United in October.

"We have a meeting, I think it is Thursday, on all that type of stuff,” first-team coach Gary Roberts told the DT. “We will have another recruitment meeting on Thursday, we have had them for the last couple of weeks, but I am sure that will come up. Decisions made on loan players, decisions made on targets, if we are going to sign people, so we will know more on Thursday on that.”

Dickson has played up front, in the 10 and out wide in his time at the Blues. With Lee Bonis in form, Will Grigg back from injury and with Freddie Ladapo likely to sign in January after impressing in training, it might remain difficult for the youngster to feature week in week out.

Roberts added: "I think he has done well when he has been called upon. He has been quite tough for minutes for him. But everytime he has come on he has not let us down. He is a really good boy but we will make that decision closer to the window.”
