After their statement win at Chelsea, Everton Women are back at home to face Arsenal in the Barclays WSL for the first match of the weekend.
Everton manager Brian Sorensen said: “It seems like we have a little bit of consistency. That paid off and the girls were excellent. They didn’t want to lose that [Chelsea] game, that’s for sure!”
“If we can do the same against Arsenal, that puts us in a good position. I’m positive going in to the Arsenal game. We know it is going to be a tough game against a good team.”
The Toffees have Maz Pacheco back available, while Laia Codina may travel with the Arsenal team.
Gunners head coach Renée Slegers told www.arsenal.com what she expects from Everton: Transitions, they’ve been extremely clinical from their transitions, so we have to manage that really well because we know the strength they have with the quality of players that can set it up and the quality of players that can finish it. They have quality and speed up top, so we’ll have to manage that really well. It’s one of their big weapons. If you look at the way they defended their last game when they got the 1-0 win, they defended for their lives in the box.
Aston Villa visit league leaders and top scorers Manchester City after a 3-0 Thursday win over Liverpool, in which Kirsty Hanson took a knock while scoring.
Chelsea are six points off the top and without a league win in three ahead of their trip to Brighton. They will have Lauren James back in the squad after she was rested for the 6-0 UWCL win over Roma.
Third meets fifth as Manchester United face Tottenham, holding a one-point lead over their visitors. Millie Turner could make her return after last featuring for United in September, but Elisabeth Terland might not recover in time. Jessica Naz has joined Spurs’ treatment room with an ACL injury.
Leicester City are hosting London City and hoping to end a long wait for their second victory, while the Lionesses have yet to draw a game in the top flight.
A massive clash between the bottom two sees West Ham host a winless Liverpool, who are two points adrift.
Liverpool boss Gareth Taylor told liverpoolfc.com after the midweek defeat: “We have to go and show a reaction because if we don’t, we know that West Ham have players that can capitalise on that, and they will.”
