Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has been speaking ahead of his side facing strugglers Wolves this weekend.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has issued an injury update ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Wolves this weekend. The Gunners need to return to winning ways after seeing their lead at the top eroded to just two points with a defeat to Aston Villa last weekend.
Since then, Mikel Arteta’s men have won comfortably in the Champions League, defeating Club Brugge without much trouble, and their attention will now turn to defeating a Wolves side still searching for its first win of the season, sat rock bottom of the Premier League table.
Arsenal have picked up some injury and illness issues of late, and there are still question marks over some players ahead of this one. Asked about William Saliba during his pre-match press conference, Arteta said: “We have to wait and see, yesterday he didn't train. We have an extra day, let's see if he can tomorrow.”
As for Jurrien Timber, Arteta added: “Depends how he feels today. It was a knock that he picked [up] and he wasn't feeling comfortable. Whether it's tomorrow or not we will see.”
Leandro Trossard could be in with a chance of returning, with Arteta describing his issue as a ‘matter of days’, though given the Belgian is out with an aggravation of a previous injury, and given Arsenal are playing bottom of the table, it may be wise to rest Trossard and get him back to full fitness.
One player who has been absent without an injury is Declan Rice, who has been struggling with illness. Arteta said on the midfielder’s condition: “Let's see how he goes today, he was ill. Normally in a few days, but let's see how he gets on.”
Arteta on possible Jesus sale
In better news, Arsenal are set to welcome Gabriel Jesus back after the best part of a year, with the Brazilian now back to fitness following a serious knee injury.
Though, there has been talk that Jesus could be sold in January given he is likely down the pecking order when both Viktor Gyokeres and Kai Havertz are fit. But Arteta is not entertaining such ideas currently. He said: “No, I don't consider that, especially with the situation we have right now. He showed us straight away, he has put so much into this situation, and the focus is to be with us.”
