Chelsea are reportedly in contact over a Premier League midfielder ahead of the January transfer window.

Chelsea are always on the lookout for talented youngsters in the transfer window, as we’ve seen in recent years, they’ve been able to sign some future stars, with the likes of Estevao, Liam Delap, and Alejandro Garnacho.

Heading into January, Chelsea are reportedly keen to strengthen in midfield, to avoid playing the likes of Reece James out of position, in holding midfield rather than as a full-back.

Chelsea ‘in contact’ with Sunderland over midfield star

The latest name to be linked with a January move to Stamford Bridge is Sunderland midfielder Noah Sadiki, who joined at the Stadium of Light in the summer from Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise. However, Sadiki could be on the move again, as Chelsea and Man United are both eyeing a move for him.

According to Sky Sports Italy Journalist Sacha Tavolieri on X, Chelsea are already ‘in direct contact’ to sign the 20-year-old in the January transfer window, as they look to add more quality to Maresca’s midfield.

Sadiki has really impressed since moving to the North East. He plays as a defensive midfielder for Sunderland, but can also feature as a full-back, a versatility which Maresca would really appreciate, with fixture congestion and fatigue from the Club World Cup kicking in as the season moves on.

The 20-year-old has an estimated market value of around £22m, but seeing as Sunderland signed him in the summer, and he has really shown positive signs of promise in the Premier League, they would likely demand a lot more, especially from a league rival such as Chelsea or Manchester United.

Sadiki could replace Romeo Lavia

It’s fair to say that things haven’t worked out for Romeo Lavia at Chelsea. The midfielder is currently injured with a hamstring injury, the latest in several injuries for the 21-year-old. Lavia has made just six appearances in all competitions this season, including four Premier League games, which isn’t what the midfielder would have wanted.

But, seeing as he’s struggled to find consistent form and consistent fitness, the fact that Chelsea are making contact over signing a new defensive midfielder comes as no surprise, and it could potentially indicate a January exit for Lavia.

It seems the Blues are keen to move on from the Belgian, as they tried to include him in a swap deal with Man United for Alejandro Garnacho in the summer, but it was rejected by the Red Devils, as they didn’t want to bring the 21-year-old in, even though they are keen to sign a new defensive midfielder moving forward.
