Mohamed Salah had not started for Liverpool for three matches before his bombshell interview.

Mo Salah believes he is in the right and all his critics are 'idiots', according to a former Liverpool star.

The Egyptian has made an outcast of himself at Anfield following his explosive interview taking aim at the club and Arne Slot. Salah launched an outburst at his manager after he was named on the bench for the third game in succession at Leeds. The 33-year-old remained an unused substitute in the 3-3 draw and suggested after the game that he shouldn’t have to fight for his place in the team.

His childish tantrum is yet to find any serious or reputable support and it could spell the end of his Liverpool career if Salah doesn’t own up to his mistake and apologise to his boss and team-mates. On Friday, Slot said the pair would have crunch talks ahead of Saturday's clash against Brighton. He said: "I speak to him today and the outcome determines how things will look tomorrow."

But speaking exclusively to the Daily Star Sport via William Hill, Dean Saunders claimed Salah’s ego will still continue to lead him to think he is in the right.

Asked what he would say to the forward, the ex-Reds striker replied: “’Go home, look in the mirror, come back tomorrow morning and think what have I got to do to be Mo Salah again?’ Because I'm going to have to leave you out.

“He'll think you're an idiot for saying it to him, but he might just go ‘maybe he's got a point’. Because they're in a bubble, these players, they don't listen to anyone. He'll think, he's right, he'll think 'I'm one of the best players in the world. How can he leave me out?' He'll be thinking it's everybody else's fault.

“He should have gone in the manager's office. You can even say worse than that to the manager and have a barney with the manager and clear the air.

“A manager can say what he wants to you and you walk out slamming the door and then it's back to work. But when you go publicly and say it, it affects the team, it affects morale, it affects the fans.

“It's a team game. You're not a tennis player, you're not a golfer. If you come out and say something on Twitter or on the TV, something ridiculous, it only affects you.

“But if you're a footballer and you say something ridiculous, it affects all of us and the five million Liverpool fans around the world.”
