Danny Murphy has picked out one Liverpool player who looks devoid of any confidence

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy believes that Alexander Isak has been fit long enough to start showing why the Reds forked out £125m for him in the summer but admits the striker looks ‘weak’ and ‘well off it’.

Isak has yet to score in the Champions League since joining Liverpool. He netted his first Premier League goal in a 2-0 win over West Ham United and has scored in the Carabao Cup.

Danny Murphy discusses Alexander Isak form for Liverpool

“He just looks weak, he’s not full of confidence - that’s for sure. I mean, he has never been somebody who realise on his strength, he is a technical player but he doesn’t look as quick and as a sharp as he did at his best.

“Maybe he is suffering more than most. Normally most players after half a dozen games back, you start to see the improvement. He looks well off it.”

Isak’s wider statistics for his performance at the San Siro also make grim reading, as the Swede had just 25 touches, two in the opposition box, lost four out of six ground duels and had a personal xG of 0.01. Isak’s fitness issues should be behind him now after he did not have a full pre-season at Newcastle United.

Isak is not the only Liverpool player who has struggled this season with the likes of Mo Salah, Ibrahima Konate, Milos Kerkez and Alexis Mac Allister all criticised for their form.

If Liverpool are to see a true renaissance this season and make a challenge for trophies on multiple fronts, finding a way to get the best out of Isak is a necessity. He has been outshone by Hugo Ekitike with Slot attempting to play them together on Tuesday night. It may be something the Dutchman attempts again against Brighton and Hove Albion this weekend.
