Everton had scouts present at the Estadio do Dragao on Thursday night to see Porto defeat Malmo, according to Record.

With the January transfer window just under three weeks from opening the Toffees’ plans to develop David Moyes‘ squad will be well under way.

Moyes wants to push for European qualification and Everton hope to sign a right-back, while midfield and attacking targets have also emerged, with the Toffees interested in Croatian international Toni Fruk.

Porto won 2-1 in their Europa League thanks to a quick-fire first-half double from striker Samu Aghehowa, with a host of Premier League and European clubs in attendance to watch the action.

Everton joined by Chelsea and Newcastle at Estadio do Dragao

According to an update from the latest print edition of Record in Portugal Everton were joined by top-flight rivals Chelsea and Newcastle.

MORE TOFFEES STORIES

European giants such as Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund were also represented, while the likes of Marseille, Alaves, Lille, Hamburg and Schalke were also watching the players on display.

However, the only Portuguese side who sent scouting staff was reportedly Penafiel from the second tier, who face Porto B on Friday night.

It is not clear who specifically Everton had their eye on from either side, but amid scoring struggles for Beto and Thierno Barry on Merseyside this season Aghehowa (formerly Omorodion) made himself conspicuous with his 12th and 13th goals of the season.

Everton fans can start to dream as Friedkin project develops

Whether it was Aghehowa in the Toffees sights or the likes of teenagers at right-back, Martim Fernandes, or central midfield, Victor Froholdt, may or may not become clear as the window approaches in the New Year.

The striker is surely on the radar of every ambitious side across Europe and is bound to cost big money if he is on the move again in the near-future, so might be out of Everton’s reach at this stage.

But even this time last year it would have been a waste of time for the club to even be involved in a race for most targets with more than a passing interest from other sides.

Now, with The Friedkin Group likely to back Moyes again in January while the Scot has the Toffees sitting in seventh and currently just two points off the Champions League places, there is reason to be positive.

An upwardly-mobile Premier League side in the new Hill Dickinson Stadium, looking to secure European football next term, and already enjoying success with signings such as Jack Grealish, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye, there is every reason to expect the club to be an attractive prospect for players on the move in the winter market.
