Former NBA player Jason Collins reveals stage 4 cancer diagnosis

(CNN) - The first openly gay athlete in the NBA has revealed a major health diagnosis.

Jason Collins shared with the world he has stage 4 brain cancer.

The former NBA center, who played for teams like the Nets and Hawks, announced in September that he was undergoing treatment for a brain tumor.

He shared an emotional essay with ESPN on Thursday.

Despite the news, the 46-year-old said he is thankful for the support of his family and he is going to continue fighting.
