PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A blind Valley clarinetist has gained national attention after a video of him playing the national anthem at a local basketball game went viral. Now, he’ll be performing on the biggest stage yet!
Over the last nine years, Joe Giacinto has memorized hundreds of songs on his clarinet, including the national anthem. The self-taught musician performed at the Park University Gilbert men’s basketball match in October. The video of his performance went viral online, attracting the attention of an NBA legend!
“It’s mind-blowing. I’ve never had that happen in my life, and I thought that was super cool. Thank you so much for everyone who watched, and I appreciate your support,” Giacinto said.

Retired All-Star Dominique Wilkins saw Giacinto’s performance and extended an exciting invitation to the Valley musician.
“Wilkins emailed me and sent me an invitation to play the national anthem for the Atlanta Hawks this coming Sunday!” he said.
Giacinto says he’s excited yet nervous to play on the national stage, but this is just the beginning of his blossoming career. He says his next goal is to perform with one of the most legendary singers of all time.
“My next dream is to perform with Andrea Bocelli,” he shared.
