Jamie Carragher has accused Mohamed Salah of 'failing to understand the psychology of Liverpool's die-hard fans'.

The ex-defender-turned-pundit, 47, branded Salah's actions 'a disgrace' in a much talked about eight-minute segment on Monday Night Football after the Egyptian gave an explosive interview saying he'd been 'thrown under the bus'.

And he has now taken another swipe at Salah, saying the 33-year-old miscalculated the impact his interview after the 3-3 draw at Leeds would have.

In his Telegraph column, Carragher wrote: 'If Mohamed Salah’s intention with his grumble in the huddle at Elland Road was to weaken Slot, he must now concede that his misguided actions have had the opposite effect.

'The chief reason for Salah’s miscalculation is his failure to fully understand the psychology of the club’s hardcore fanbase.

'In a choice between a title-winning Anfield manager and a multi-title-winning footballer, the coach wins every time.'

Jamie Carragher believes the star player completely misread how his interview would land

Salah had played only 45 minutes in three games when he decided to go nuclear and claim he has 'no relationship' with Slot during the extraordinary interview.

Slot then left Salah at home while the rest of the squad travelled to Inter Milan in the Champions League and earned a superb and hard-fought 1-0 win at San Siro.

The performance and win came at a crucial time for the manager, with travelling supporters chanting his name in the stands.

It puts Salah in a tricky position and there is interest from both Saudi Pro League sides and the MLS in a potential January move.

Despite Carragher's scathing verdict on Salah's actions, he went on to say he hopes his Liverpool career can be resurrected but would not be shocked if this is the end.

He went on: 'Once Salah spoke out, just like the supporters, Liverpool’s executives were never going to back the player over the manager.

'There might be no way back for Salah now he is heading to the Africa Cup of Nations, but I genuinely hope there is. As things stand, it would be no surprise if Liverpool sold Salah to fund another spree in January.'

Slot and Salah held showdown talks on Friday but it is not yet known if a resolution was found.

Salah gave explosive interview last Saturday, where he suggested he no longer had a relationship with Liverpool boss Arne Slot and that he had been 'thrown under the bus'

Slot said: 'I will have a conversation with Mo this morning and the outcome of that conversation determines how it will look tomorrow.'

He later added: 'I have no reasons not wanting him to stay, if that is a little bit of an answer.'

Plenty of pundits have had their say on what the future might hold for Salah, who earns more than £400k-a-week at Liverpool.

Steven Gerrard was sympathetic but said Salah was wrong to claim he had been thrown under the bus.

Alan Shearer, meanwhile, believes there is no way back. He told Betfair: 'I think that depends on Mo himself in terms of whether he's prepared to back down and accept that he shouldn't have done it if he wants to play for Liverpool again.

'I've been through all the reasons why I think he did it and I understand his attitude and how he feels because I've been there myself. I've felt everything he feels when I got left out of the Sunderland game.

'The big difference is that he shouldn't have gone to the world press to say that. I guess he has to come out and apologise although I'm not sure I see that happening. My belief is that he may not play for Liverpool again.'
