Roma manager lifts the lid on Evan Ferguson 'opportunities' amid Everton interest

Evan Ferguson will have impressed many on Merseyside on Thursday night following the transfer links to Everton.

The Toffees are heading into the January transfer window knowing they need to still add more goals to David Moyes’ squad.

Everton saw Thierno Barry finally get off the mark at the weekend with his goal against Nottingham Forest.

However, that will not deter Everton from looking to bring in more firepower next month when the window opens.

Everton News understands that Ferguson is a striker on Everton’s radar with his future at The Friedkin Group’s AS Roma under pressure.

Thursday night was a positive evening for Ferguson and the Roma manager, Gian Piero Gasperini, spoke about the young Irishman after their Europa League game.

What Gian Piero Gasperini said about Evan Ferguson amid Everton links

After netting a brace against Celtic, Ferguson addressed the transfer speculation, which has seen him linked with a move to Merseyside.

The 21-year-old has been a player desperate to find some form all season after joining Roma on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion.

“Ferguson finally delivered in the match what he demonstrated in training,” said the Roma manager.

“Beyond the two goals, the performance was key. I’m happy he showed this intensity and quality on the pitch.”

Everton eyed Ferguson over the summer before he made the move to join their sister club in the Italian capital.

Whether those goals have saved the striker from a potential early return to Brighton will now remain to be seen.

Ferguson may pose a big risk for Everton to make

Clearly, there is a long-standing interest in Ferguson, but Everton have already been stung by a number of young strikers.

Everton have a lot of belief in Barry, but even he is still yet to prove himself despite scoring a big goal at the weekend.

After watching this goal from Evan Ferguson, who would be your dream January striker signing? 🤔

He certainly put on a show against Celtic!

Gasperini has made Ferguson’s lack of experience very clear and he spoke about it again after Thursday’s European clash.

“Ferguson is a young guy, we have to wait for him,” he said.

“In Europe the games are different, you face teams that lead the table in their leagues and they approach the challenge head on, which is why there are more opportunities.”

Everton could really do with an experienced striker who could land on Merseyside and Barry could learn from over the coming months.

Ferguson would certainly pose another gamble.
