Daniel Farke hints if Liverpool and Chelsea results actually saved his job at Leeds United

Daniel Farke hosted his press conference at Leeds on Friday in a much healthier atmosphere compared to his other recent chats to the media.

A run of four consecutive defeats before Chelsea came to Elland Road placed the German under severe pressure, as the 49ers began to consider Gary O’Neil and Brendan Rodgers – talkSPORT claimed.

A story from the Guardian even stated that Farke would be sacked if Leeds lost to both Chelsea and Liverpool.

However, the 49-year-old admirably hammered Chelsea to secure a 3-1 win, and then managed to snatch a point against Liverpool as Ao Tanaka sealed a 3-3 draw in the 96th minute.

Daniel Farke was then asked for an update on the security of his job, giving Leeds fans a brief but telling answer.

Daniel Farke suggests he has managed to completely end speculation over his future at Leeds United

When asked if he has held any talks with the 49ers over his position since causing Enzo Maresca and Arne Slot problems at Elland Road, he bluntly said: “No conversations. No topic for me.”

Do Leeds even NEED signings after enjoying success with a 3-5-2 formation?

We speak about what is possible (privately) but it’s not my job to speak in public about it or judge it in any way. I deal with what I’ve got. Of course I want the best possible squad, the best possible players and to improve the players as much as possible, but I don’t own the club

That very much suggests Farke has successfully managed to stamp out the possibility of him being sacked, for now at least.

It comes as a relief that the man born in Steinhausen was able to steer Leeds to positive results against Chelsea and Liverpool, as the potential replacements did little to excite us.

The aforementioned O’Neil and Rodgers were sacked by Wolves and Celtic in December 2024 and October 2025 respectively, and do not exactly represent glowing candidates to replace Farke.

Ange Postecoglou was also an option – but having been dismissed by Nottingham Forest in October after just 39 days and eight winless games in charge, the Australian also would have been a risk.

Daniel Farke cannot afford to rest at Leeds United now

There is an air of relief around Leeds right now that is impossible to ignore, following the results against Chelsea and Liverpool – with fans given a newfound confidence that survival can be achieved.

However, Farke himself cannot afford to get swept up in this feeling.

It was interesting to see the German only decide to change his formation to a 3-5-2 when the pressure was seriously heating up on him, having previously been wedded to a 4-2-3-1 shape.

It suggests Farke could now revert to his old ways having eased the pressure, something he must avoid if he wants to keep Leeds fans onside.
