Chelsea news: Enzo Maresca confirms 22yo star could be out for four weeks, but key duo fit to…

Chelsea are set to host Everton at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon, and manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed a double injury boost for the Blues.

The Blues head into the crunch fixture hoping to end a minor bump that has seen them fail to win any of their last four games in all competitions.

Since the stunning 3-0 Champions League win against Barcelona, Chelsea have alternated between draws and defeats in their last four games.

They’ll be keen to get back to winning ways when they host Everton, and Maresca has delivered a positive injury update that significantly increases their chances.

Maresca has confirmed that key first-team duo Cole Palmer and Wesley Fofana are fit and in contention to face the Toffees this weekend.

Palmer was left out of the 2-1 defeat to Atalanta in the Champions League, but trained with the squad on Thursday and is moving in the right direction.

Fofana came on at half time against Atalanta but suffered a freak eye injury that forced Maresca to replace him with Tosin Adarabioyo in the 76th minute.

However, both players are now pushing to return to the starting line-up for the Everton clash.

“Cole [Palmer] is ok,” Maresca said during his pre-match press conference. “He is better, and he is available at the moment.

“Yesterday he finished the session with us with mixed feelings, but overall he is ok.”

On Fofana, Maresca said: “He is available, he is fine. He took part in the session yesterday and is completely fine.”

Maresca also issued an update on Liam Delap’s injury but couldn’t provide a specific timeline for the striker’s return.

“We don’t know yet,” he said. “It could be two, three, or four weeks. We don’t know exactly how many days he will need.”

Chelsea head into this weekend’s fixtures fifth in the Premier League table, just one point behind fourth-placed Crystal Palace.

Anything but a win against Everton could see the Blues plummet down the table, with just four points separating Palace from Newcastle United in 12th.
