Former Liverpool forward Luis Suarez moved to Inter Miami in December 2023. His contract with the club expired at the end of the 2025 Major League Soccer season, a campaign highlighted by Inter Miami’s first-ever league title. Last season, Suarez featured in 32 MLS matches, including playoffs, scoring 10 goals and providing 10 assists.
The Uruguayan forward is now entering a period of transition at Inter Miami. After being an undisputed starter under both Gerardo Martino and Javier Mascherano, a suspension in game two of the first playoff round against Nashville marked a turning point. Suarez lost his starting spot to young Mateo Silvetti, who became a key figure in Inter Miami’s MLS Cup triumph.
His situation quickly became one of the defining subplots of the offseason following the MLS Cup victory. Speaking ahead of the final, Miami co-owner Jorge Mas stated that the decision on whether Suarez continues his career with the club would ultimately be up to the forward himself, now approaching his late thirties.
“Luis Suárez is a legend of football, he is one of the best nines not only of this generation but of all time,” Mas told reporters. “Luis will have to make a decision when the season is over, so tomorrow.” He added: “Luis deserves to be able to make that decision to be able to leave through the front door and be celebrated like he should be by the club. And if he decides to stay at the club for another year, it would be great. I would like to see Suárez stay.”
Inter Miami CF have confirmed ongoing negotiations with Luis Suarez, Allen Obando, and Rocco Rios Novo. These talks follow the retirements of Jordi Alba and Sergio Busquets after Saturday’s MLS Cup win. The former Barcelona stars joined Miami in July 2023 alongside Lionel Messi.
Suarez joined Liverpool from Ajax in 2011 for £22.7m. The 38-year-old scored 31 league goals in his final season at Anfield before moving to Barcelona in the summer of 2014. He scored 82 goals in 133 appearances for the Reds during his time at Anfield.
