Knicks Linked to NBA Champion Guard Amid Trade Buzz: Report

The New York Knicks have established themselves as a powerhouse in the Eastern Conference. Through their first 24 games of the season, the Knicks sit with a stellar 17-7 record, which is good for the No. 2 seed in the East.

The Knicks entered the season with high expectations and that remains the case after their incredible run to the Eastern Conference Finals last season. Anything outside of that this season is a failure for the club, which is searching for its first title in over 50 years.

New York has a chance to come out of their conference at the very least if things break their way. Still, while they have shown to be a great team so far; it is clear the Knicks need to make a slight upgrade to make a deep playoff run.

One name the Knicks have been linked to and are showing interest in is Minnesota Timberwolves and former Knicks guard Donte DiVincenzo.

Kris Pursiainen of ClutchPoints says the Knicks have discussed possibly acquiring the 2021 NBA champion.

"League sources tell ClutchPoints that the Knicks have had exploratory discussions with two Western Conference teams about potential trades, with New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Donte DiVincenzo at the center of various proposals."

There have been rumblings that the Timberwolves could pull the trigger on trading DiVincenzo. Teams have shown interest in him in the past, and there is a chance that New York could bring him back ot the

The 28-year-old could find his way back to the Knicks after his great stint with them just two seasons ago. In his lone season in New York, he averaged 15.5 points per game, 3.7 rebounds, 2.7 assist band 1.3 steals while shooting 44.3 percent from the field and 40.1 percent from three in 81 games and 63 starts.

While a reunion would be nice, the Knicks may not be a player of the caliber of DiVincenzo. New York needs a true ballhandler who can get into the paint and create shots for teammates. DiVincenzo is a great role player in the league, but doesn’t necessarily fit that bill.
