Liverpool could be set for a busy January - despite spending £450m during the summer transfer window

Liverpool could be in for a busy January transfer window, as they look to sign the right players to try and save their season.

The Reds’ hopes of retaining the title are all-but over - and have been for a while - as they look to the FA Cup and the Champions League as possible routes to silverware this campaign.

Arne Slot’s side spent around £450m in the summer strengthening their squad but a big overhaul of players has proven to be difficult to deal with. There is the added issue of Mohamed Salah publicly expressing his frustration.

His outburst in the wake of 3-3 draw with Leeds United saw him left behind as Liverpool beat Inter Milan 1-0 in the San Siro in midweek. Liverpool could do with finding a long-term replacement for Salah while the Egyptian’s future has now been cast into doubt.

With the January window approaching fast, we look at the latest with every Liverpool transfer story a few weeks out from the window opening...

The latest on the biggest Liverpool transfer stories ahead of January

Antoine Semenyo: Liverpool have reportedly ‘agreed personal terms’ with Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo, matching rival suitors Manchester City’s offer to the 25-year-old after the Cityzens had reportedly previously agreed terms.

The two Premier League giants have shared the last eight league titles between them, and are believed to be the two front-runners for Semenyo in January. The Ghana international has a £65million release clause which will become active on January 1, this clause is only said to be valid for the early part of the window - lasting until January 10.

Mo Salah: Manager Arne Slot admitted on Friday morning during his pre-Brighton press conference that he has no reason to not want Salah to stick around at Anfield. However, the player himself is reportedly ready to rip up his contract while it has been reported by TEAMtalk that Saudi Pro League bosses are confident of bringing him to the Middle East in January with offers being prepared.

Marc Guehi: The latest on Guehi may not be good news for Liverpool. Bayern Munich have planned to hold further talks with the player after already meeting with the star’s agent. They report that Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the clubs ‘seriously interested’ in Guehi.

From January 1, Guehi is free to speak with any clubs outside of England to agree a pre-contract for the summer. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl wants to hold discussions directly with Guehi. If Liverpool want to speak with Guehi in January, they will need to agree that with Palace - who could demand more than £20m for the defender given the importance he has within the Eagles’ squad.

Wilfried Singo: According reports earlier this week, Liverpool are ‘expected’ to make an offer worth up to £38million for Galatasaray centre-back Wilfried Singo. Singo, 24, could be seen by Liverpool as a potential alternative for Guehi. They need to start thinking about long-term replacements for Ibrahima Konate, who is out of contract at the end of the campaign and is due to become a free agent in June 2026 as things stand. It remains to be seen whether he will be staying put beyond the end of his current deal.
