Mavs insider drops key date of Kyrie Irving's potential return

There is an "optimism" that Kyrie Irving could return to Dallas this season before the All-Star break.

The work continues for Kyrie Irving in his ongoing rehabilitation from ACL injury, and there is a possibility that he'll be able to come back sooner rather than later.

Dallas Mavericks / Schedule

According to Mavericks reporter and insider Grant Afseth, there is optimism that the superstar guard might return and make his 2025-26 debut for the Dallas Mavericks before the All-Star break.

"He's been working very hard to have a comeback this season. I think he very much wants to. Obviously the way the team has played out has kind of created uncertainty for what people think could happen. But I do know he's been someone that's worked very hard to make that comeback. He takes a lot of pride in being able to show I'm an elite player coming off this injury," Afseth said in HoopsHype's Around the Beat.

"I've personally like, from my understanding of the situation, have long held like the, the thought that there's optimism of a pre All-Star break return. But that's not ever been like super like that's happening, there's a set guarantee like anything of that nature."

Irving notably remains inactive after sustaining a torn ACL in his left knee back in March.

His looming comeback couldn't be more pivotal for the Mavericks this season. Currently, Dallas is experiencing a roller-coaster year with a 9-16 record heading to their Friday matchup against the Brooklyn Nets.

A healthy and rejuvenated Irving will play a huge role in a potential late-season push for the Mavs. And a possible pre-All-Star return perfectly sets him up and the team to prepare for it.

Despite recent rumors, it seems that the Mavericks are still determined to compete with Anthony Davis and reigning No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg, as Irving's return can only strengthen their desire to contend for a title.
