Liverpool are looking to extend an astonishing record they have kept in festive fixtures over their last 52 games in December.
Brighton are next up for Liverpool, with the Reds hoping to keep consecutive clean sheets for just the third time this season.
This is their fourth of six December fixtures this season, and if they avoid defeat at Anfield they will extend an incredible record that has seen them lose just one of their last 52 matches in the month of December.
Of those 52 games, they have won 37 and drawn 14 – the only defeat came at Leicester (1-0 in 2021).
History tells us to expect goals

The only goalless draw between Liverpool and Brighton came in the league at Brighton in September 1961.
Liverpool have scored twice in each of the last four league games against the Seagulls – two at home and two away – and two or more in seven of the last eight.
The last eight league matches between the teams have produced 30 goals.
Liverpool have won 11 of the 13 games they have played in this season in league and cup when scoring the game’s first goal, drawing one and losing one.
Conversely, they have lost nine of 11 games in all competitions when conceding the first goal, drawing once and winning once.
Curtis Jones could play his 200th game for Liverpool in all competitions, while Dominik Szoboszlai could score in three successive Liverpool games for the first time in his career.
Virgil van Dijk’s next league appearance will be his 250th for Liverpool. Only the Liverpool captain (1,174) has made more passes in the Premier League this season than Brighton’s Lewis Dunk (1,161) and Jan Paul van Hecke (1,103).
A look at Brighton

Brighton won their last encounter with Liverpool 3-2 on the south coast back in May. Yasin Ayari and Kaoru Mitoma twice equalised before substitute Jack Hinshelwood scored an 85th-minute winner.
Hinshelwood had only been on the pitch for two minutes after coming on alongside his cousin Harry Howell, who became Brighton’s youngest ever Premier League player aged 17 years and 29 days.
At Anfield, the Seagulls have won just one of the last nine league games – Steven Alzate with the only goal in an empty stadium in February 2021.
They lost only nine league games in 2024/25, with only Liverpool and Arsenal losing fewer with four. Man City and Chelsea also lost nine.
This is their ninth consecutive Premier League campaign and their 13th season in the top flight.
