Key Points

Golden State Warriors superstar Steph Curry returned with a bang on Friday night following a two-week spell on the sidelines due to a quad injury. The four-time NBA champion point guard picked up right where he left off before the injury, exploding for 39 points on 14-of-28 shooting, to go along with five rebounds, five assists and six triples in 32 minutes of action.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, not even Curry’s outstanding performance was enough to carry them to victory against an Anthony Edwards-less Minnesota Timberwolves side. Golden State suffered its first loss in three games after the Wolves pulled off an upset at Chase Center, 127-120.

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said before the game that Curry would not have a minutes limit in his first game back. This was an indication that the former back-to-back MVP was fully healthy, and his performance on the evening was a testament to this fact.

After a five-game absence, Curry was eager to make up for lost time. He did just that on Saturday, en route to breaking a long-standing record previously held by none other than the great Michael Jordan.

The NBA took to social media to announce Curry’s latest historic milestone.

“HISTORY FOR STEPHEN CURRY IN HIS RETURN! Tonight marks Steph’s 94th 35-PT game since turning 30… That’s now THE MOST IN NBA HISTORY, passing Michael Jordan’s 93,” the league posted on X.

Simply put, Jordan is widely considered the greatest to ever do it, so for Curry to break one of the GOAT’s scoring records speaks volumes about the Warriors star’s own legacy.

Curry spoke to the media after the game, expressing his gratitude for finally being able to make his comeback. The 37-year-old, however, could not help but also feel disappointed about the loss.

“Thankful we got back in the game, took a lead for a certain point, but then you’re at the mercy of couple makes here, a couple misses here, challenge call and stuff like that,” he said. “[We] gave ourselves a chance.”

Curry and the Warriors fell to 13-13 after losing to Minnesota on Saturday night. Their next chance to get back to winning ways will be on Sunday in a road game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
