Some people within Liverpool think they know exactly why Mo Salah said what he said on Saturday - journalist

Mohamed Salah has caused much debate since calling out the club after Leeds United this past Saturday.

Salah and Arne Slot held talks on Friday ahead of the weekend’s Premier League meeting with Brighton and Hove Albion.

It’s now expected that the 33-year-old will be in the Liverpool squad to face Brighton on December 13.

It remains to be seen if he will start, be selected on the bench, or whether it could be his final game for the club before securing a move in January following his spell at the AFCON.

Why Mohamed Salah conducted Leeds United interview

But some inside Liverpool now think they know why Salah said what he said in the mixed zone at Elland Road.

Speaking on The Football Terrace, journalist Ben Jacobs revealed that the view is now that the forward may have decided that his time at Anfield is up.

He said: “It’s more complicated than that. Key to all of this is a feeling within Liverpool that Salah may have decided his time is up. A bit like when Cristiano Ronaldo did that interview with Piers Morgan.

“But there might be a logic that Salah’s actual aim was to put pressure on Arne Slot and get more game time.

“And I’m not sure that everybody that makes decisions at Liverpool yet knows what Salah’s true motive of his interview at Elland Road was. And this is what makes the situation unclear. So Liverpool are waiting for Salah to almost clarify if he wants to leave.”

Mohamed Salah could hurt his legacy

The next few weeks will seemingly be key to deciding his long-term future, and his actions after Brighton are likely to give a good indication of how he’s feeling.

We know there is Saudi interest already, but if he does decide to depart in the 2026 winter window, it may leave a sour taste in supporters’ mouths.

Gary Lineker is worried about Salah tarnishing his legacy at Liverpool as a result of his interview.

He said: “It’d be awful if it ended kind of miserably after such a wonderful like what is it, nine years?”

Meanwhile, Thierry Henry criticised the Egyptian for how he conducted himself.
