Inter Milan 0-1 Liverpool: Arne Slot press conference
Liverpool team predicted to face Brighton & Hove Albion in the Premier League at Anfield.
Liverpool look to continue their unbeaten run of form as they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion at Anfield.
Liverpool’s performance at the San Siro was highly professional, especially considering Arne Slot was short of players - and now they must finally put a string of wins together.
While the Reds’ Premier League title defence is already over by Christmas, Slot’s side are very much in a battle to secure a top-four finish. They displayed their prowess in front of goal during last weekend’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United but their defensive vulnerabilities were exposed.
Liverpool face a Brighton side capable of beating any team on their day. The home side will have Salah back in the squad after holding talks with head coach Slot, but Cody Gakpo, Wataru Endo, Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong will all be absent.
With everything in mind, here’s a look at how Liverpool could line-up.
GK - Alisson Becker
The No.1 goalkeeper was rarely called into action against Inter but made when fine save i the first half. He could expect a similar afternoon although Brighton carry plenty of threat.
RB - Joe Gomez
Slot will once again be without an out-and-out right-back with Bradley suspended. Gomez will help with giving defensive stability.
CB - Ibrahima Konate
Slot heaped praise on the France international’s performance after the Inter win. Konate has made several errors this season but now needs to find consistency.
CB - Virgil van Dijk
Defended admirably against Inter and the Liverpool captain will emphasise that another clean sheet is required.
LB - Milos Kerkez
Started to settle down after a tough start to his Liverpool career. With Gomez more defensive, Kerkez could be asked with flying up the flank frequently.
DM - Ryan Gravenberch
Gave Liverpool plenty of defensive security and made several important interceptions against Inter. That discipline will again be needed to help yield a clean sheet.
CM - Dominik Szoboszlai
Without doubt Liverpool’s best player this season and deserves to be the first name on the team sheet. Operating in the number-eight position is where he’s at his peak.
CM - Curtis Jones
Been exceptional in the past two games having displayed bravery in possession. If Jones is to feature, it will be his 200th appearance for the club.
AM - Alexis Mac Allister
Still been short of his best this season but helped Liverpool dominate the engine room against Inter and similar tactics could be deployed.
ST - Florian Wirtz
Made a magnificent impact against Inter and there’s a good chance that Wirtz could be given a free role against Brighton as Alexander Isak is doubtful to start.
ST - Hugo Ekitike
Fired two goals at Leeds last weekend. Ekitike didn’t quite link with Isak against Inter but playing with more of a creator in Wirtz will help supply him chances aplenty.
