Hansi Flick talks Balde, Eric Garcia, Joan Garcia, Rashford ahead of Barcelona vs Osasuna

Following [a 2-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt](https://semprebarca.com/kounde-8-5-pedri-8-0-barcelona-2-1-eintracht-frankfurt-player-ratings/) in the UEFA Champions League, FC Barcelona are now set to face Osasuna in their next league game. The Catalans are currently four points clear at the top of the league table, and will be looking to ensure to maintain this lead with this game.

The Blaugrana coach Hansi Flick addressed a press conference ahead of this game and, as [Mundo Deportivo](http://mundodeportivo.com/futbol/fc-barcelona/20251212/1002585301/rueda-prensa-flick-directo-hoy-fc-barcelona.html) has reported, talked about different aspects of his team and the upcoming game.

The German coach started by making it clear that he is not going to talk about Real Madrid, who are going through a crisis situation:

**“I don’t want to talk about that. I don’t want to talk about Real Madrid; I want to talk about Barça. That’s why I’m here.”**

Hansi Flick identified some areas where Alejandro Balde can improve:

**“He’s a young player. I see him playing well; he’s focused and training hard after the injury he had. He has a lot of potential. I think he has the quality to play for Spain, but he has to prove it in every match. He’s fast and good on the ball; he can improve his crossing. His attitude is good.”**

The Blaugrana coach once again spoke highly of Eric Garcia’s versatility:

**“He has the great quality of being able to play in several positions. When Frenkie couldn’t play, we decided he would play as a ‘6’, and he did well. We can choose between different positions. He defends well, but he also brings the ball out from the back and gives us options. It’s very good to have him.”**

The German coach also praised Marcus Rashford despite him not being a fixed starter:

**“If he’s on the bench, it’s because we’ve put out a great team. He has a great attitude and is at his best right now. I speak with the players, and he told me not to worry, that the most important thing is the team. That’s the attitude. I’m very happy he’s here.”**

When asked about Ter Stegen, Flick was not too revealing:

**“I’ve spoken with him; that’s my job. But it’s something that stays between him and me.”**

Similarly, the Barcelona coach also avoided talking about Xabi Alonso’s situation:

**“I’m focused 100% on our own situation.”**

While making it clear that Joan Garcia is the fixed starter, the German coach did not give any indications about the rest of the goalkeeping hierarchy:

**“Joan is the number one. But I don’t see a second or third. We’re not going to change Joan; he’s doing very well.”**

Flick was not getting carried away by the lead over Real Madrid:

**“This is a long journey. We’re in December and there are many matches left. For us, it’s important to focus on ourselves. We have quality and we can beat anyone; that’s what we want to do. There are things we can improve, and that’s what concerns me. Now is not the time to think about being top of the table.”**

The Blaugrana coach also opened up about his defensive line:

**“I’ve said it before. This is the current situation. In recent matches we’ve played very well with Cubarsí, Gerard, Balde, and Eric as the ‘6’. Frenkie was ill and needs to get better. The important thing is to have the best possible eleven on the pitch.”**

The German coach once again talked about Garcia:

**“At the moment we’ve seen Eric as the ‘6’, and he’s done well. Perhaps right now he needs to continue there. It’s important that everyone recovers well. We’ll decide tomorrow. Eric can play as the ‘6’.”**

Flick also opened up on the competition in the team:

**“In a team like Barça, at this level and with so many competitions, it’s important to have competition within the squad. That helps players improve.**

**What’s happening with Ferran and Lewandowski is good for the team. I’ve loved what I’ve seen over the last four weeks. Ferran is at a very high level. The quality in training is different from two months ago. This is Barça’s level. If we train at this level, we can improve; that’s the foundation.”**

The German coach was not taking the challenge of Osasuna lightly:

**“In La Liga, every match is difficult if you don’t play at 100%. We’ve prepared well; it doesn’t matter who the opponent is. We’re focused on ourselves—on preparing the players for what we need tomorrow and fighting for the three points.”**

There is no doubt that every team is challenging in La Liga, but hopefully, Barcelona would be able to get the job done and get the full three points from this game.
