According to KSL Sports reporter Ben Anderson, Indiana's interest in Kessler isn't new. Speaking on the Jazz Notes podcast, Anderson said the Pacers have been checking in on the former first-round pick repeatedly, dating back to last summer.

"I've heard the Indiana Pacers have inquired about Walker Kessler for a long time," Anderson said. "That's going back to the summer, they've lost Myles Turner… before the injury and even after the injury…"

Before the Los Angeles Lakers brought in Deandre Ayton to fill their starting center role this past offseason, Kessler was frequently mentioned as a potential target for the purple-and-gold franchise.

Kessler's 2025–26 season was cut short after he underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder.

He appeared in just five games, but was productive when on the floor, averaging 14.4 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game.
