Milos Kerkez lifts lid on relationship with Andy Robertson

The Hungarian’s arrival ushered in a new era at left-back for Liverpool.

Milos Kerkez was brought in this summer to provide competition for the veteran left-back.

He signed for Liverpool in a £40m deal from AFC Bournemouth this summer.

Arriving as one of the best left-backs in the Premier League last season, it was the first real sign since Andy Robertson cemented his place on Merseyside that a new era was being ushered in at Liverpool.

Andy Robertson hadn’t been given much competition, as there was a clear dvidie in quality between him and any other left-back employed at the club.

Now that is different, as despite Kerkez only being 21 years of age, he is showing all the signs that he is going to be a top class full-back in years to come.

The talent is clearly there, but the way the Hungarian currently plays is raw, and he will need to be coached over time to make decisions and reduce the rashness of this playing style.

Arne Slot will help with that, but it is Andy Robertson that will provide Kerkez with what he needs to succeed, having done so himself throughout a hugely successful time at Anfield for the Scotsman.

Speaking about his relationship with Andy Robertson for LFC, Kerkez said:

“I have here Robbo next to me who is a great player and a big name here and did big things at the club.”

“We are pushing each other a lot. It’s a positive competition and I’m learning a lot from him.”

“I think it’s always important and especially to have competition like Robbo. You have to always – if you’re playing good, if you have competition like that – you have to continue to do good.”

“You know if you don’t have competition then maybe it’s possible playing up top and you start to drop and then you need someone to pick you back up again. I think it’s really important.”

Milos Kerkez has been finding his feet in a Reds shirt recently and is slowing growing in confidence.

Andy Robertson was linked with a move away from Liverpool this summer with Atletico Madrid interested and the decision not to move is hugely benefitting Milos Kerkez it seems.
