Chelsea vs Everton – Team News: Maresca responds to Delap injury with new attacking setup

Chelsea face Everton at Stamford Bridge in just over an hour, and the teams are in!

The team Enzo Maresca has gone for is very similar to his preferred side of the last few months in the Premier League, albeit with some enforced changes.

Liam Delap is now out injured, meaning Joao Pedro has been pushed forward into the number 9 role.

His space in the hole is taken by the returning Cole Palmer. He’s flanked by Alejandro Garnacho and Pedro Neto on either side.

With Moises Caicedo missing the final game of his suspension, Reece James is deployed in midfield alongside Enzo Fernandez.

The back four has Malo Gusto on the right, Marc Cucurella on the left and the preferred central defensive partnership of Wesley Fofana and Trevoh Chalobah. Robert Sanchez is in goal.

Here are the full team line-ups for Chelsea vs Everton (kick off at 15:00 GMT)

It will be interesting to see how this setup gets on – Joao Pedro has struggled plenty when playing as a lead striker, but hopefully the presence of Palmer to play combinations with can help him.

The defence looks solid – but without Caicedo to screen the back four it’s hard to be too confident. Everton are likely going to present a really solid formation and it will be down to our attackers to break them down without exposing ourselves in transition.

In other news…

Enzo Maresca has been pretty relaxed in press conference despite our bad recent results – that’s clearly his attitude to the whole slump we’re in now, and it’s going to be interesting to see if it gets the desired response from the players.

Chelsea’s nasty run of form, according to Trevoh Chalobah needs to use one key factor tomorrow to try and turn that around.
