Major injury blow for Brighton ahead of Liverpool - but three return
Liverpool vs Brighton in the Premier League from Anfield - Saturday, 3pm
Liverpool took just 46 seconds to take the lead against Brighton at Anfield.
While much of the pre-match discussion revolved around Mohamed Salah, it was Hugo Ekitike who took the early headlines.
Brighton were masters of their own downfall as winger Yankuba Minteh played a poor cross field ball across the box. It placed the Brighton defence under pressure and Liverpool defender Joe Gomez easily won the first header.
The ball fell to Ekitike who took a nice first touch and then volleyed beyond Brighton keeper Bart Vergruggen. A nice goal from Ekitike, who has been the most reliable of Liverpool's attackers this season.
It was the fastest goal in the Premier League this season - and Ekitike's sixth goal in the league this campaign.
BBC reporter Aadam Patel at Anfield posted: "It'a a superb finish from Hugo Ekitike. Just the start that Arne Slot and Liverpool needed."
While Chris Sutton stated: "But what on earth was Yankuba Minteh thinking? Perfect start for Arne Slot and Liverpool. Horrendous cross field ball from Minteh across his own box.
“A little knock down from Joe Gomez into the path of Hugo Ekitike who drifts in between the centre-half, takes a touch and thunders the ball past Verbruggen."
Salah was soon into the action as he came off the bench on 26 minutes to replace the injured Joe Gomez.
