Draymond Green #23 of the Golden State Warriors looks on from the bench during the second half against the Chicago Bulls at the United Center on December 7, 2025 in Chicago, Illinois.
The idea of Draymond Green donning a non-Warriors jersey was unfathomable until a few years ago. However, as Stephen Curry’s championship window continues to shrink, the Warriors could be forced to take drastic steps to improve the roster, such as trading their longtime defensive anchor, Green.
ESPN’s insiders have floated a Warriors trade idea that would replace Green with another quality defensive player and former NBA champion — Anthony Davis. The four-team trade would also help the Warriors move disgruntled asset Jonathan Kuminga, who continues to be a bench-warmer in Steve Kerr’s rotation.
Details of the mock trade:
Warriors would get: Anthony Davis, Mason Plumlee
Mavericks would get: Draymond Green Jonathan Kuminga, 2026 first-round pick (via Warriors)
Lakers would get: Buddy Hield
Hornets would get: Maxi Kleber, Dalton Knecht, Cash considerations (via Lakers)
Warriors Trade Options
Pulling the trigger on a Draymond Green trade would be a tough call for the Warriors, but it could be their only way to improve the roster around Curry and Jimmy Butler III.
Green’s defensive brilliance has allowed the Warriors to rank No. 4 in defensive efficiency this season, but their offense has struggled mightily. His individual offensive numbers have seen a considerable drop off, with the 35-year-old maintaining shooting splits of 38/33/62 through 20 games.
“Although Golden State continues to play at a high level with Green on the court, he’s shooting 38% from the field, his lowest mark since his rookie season — worse even than 2019-20, when Curry played just five games during what became a gap year,” ESPN’s Kevin Pelton wrote, justifying a Warriors trade for Davis.
“Davis would be the rim threat as a roll man the Warriors have long sought. They could also save money this season by structuring this as a multiteam deal, sending Hield to a third team. In this case, he goes to the rival Lakers to supply the shooting threat they need.”
Draymond Green Trade Rumors
It’s worth noting that there have been conflicting reports about the Warriors considering a trade of Green, who has a $27.6M player option for 2026-27.
Per insider Jake Fischer, Giannis Antetokounmpo would be the only player the Warriors would consider moving Green for.
“The only player I think in the league that Golden State would be willing to move Draymond Green for would be Giannis Antetokounmpo,” Fischer said on the “Insider Notebook” podcast.
“And I just think Golden State values him too much, and they would not part ways with Draymond Green unless it was for Giannis, and that’s really it,” Fischer added.
However, ClutchPoints’ Brett Siegel noted that the Warriors refuse to trade Green for any player, even for a two-time MVP like Antetokounmpo.
“I don’t know how many times we have to say it, but the Warriors WILL NOT be trading Draymond Green,” Siegel wrote on X.
“As we’ve reported, it would take Green, Kerr, and Curry all signing off on such a move, and Green himself would need to be the one to say he wanted to be traded.”
