Malo Gusto says Enzo Maresca will be very'happy’ with two Chelsea players after Everton

It’s fair to say Malo Gusto had the biggest impact on Chelsea’s win over Everton, assisting the first and scoring the second.

He’s sure to get most of the plaudits, but Gusto didn’t want to hog the spotlight for himself.

Palmer’s Stamford Bridge return was marked with a goal, and Gusto will be delighted to have his second Chelsea goal, also the second in six games.

But perhaps even more impressive was the defensive display. Two players quietly had an excellent game and extended a rather encouraging streak.

Malo Gusto heaps praise on Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana

This latest clean sheet is the fifth straight Chelsea have kept when Trevoh Chalobah and Wesley Fofana start together.

Enzo Maresca has done a fair bit of chopping and changing in his defensive line, but this looks like the partnership to trust moving forward.

And Gusto reckons this latest performance from the Chelsea duo is sure to please the Chelsea boss.

Speaking to Sky Sports about his centre-backs, Gusto remarked: “Of course, they are top defenders, it’s great for us to see this type of performance.

“They are very strong at the back and that helps us to be as well. That’s what we train every day. We played really well and I think the coach will be happy.”

Chelsea draw level with Arsenal for clean sheets after holding Everton scoreless. A crazy feat when you consider the narratives around these two sides.

Malo Gusto on assisting Cole Palmer’s goal

On the attacking side, Gusto had his best performance in a Chelsea shirt.

Pedro Neto’s superb run at the Everton defence led to a straightforward, but nonetheless impressive finish from Gusto.

But before that, the Blues opened proceedings with the Frenchman slipping Palmer through on goal.

Asked about the moment, he explained: “I trust him, he knows I like to pass the ball to him, it was a great run for him and he scored, so I’m happy for him and me too.”

A clash against Everton is no cakewalk, but Chelsea can be happy with the performance put in — on both sides of the ball.
