Pelicans front office 'had no idea' how valuable their traded pick was

New Orleans Pelicans' front office apparently had no idea that they were trading their 2026 first round pick on Draft night to the Atlanta Hawks.

New Orleans Pelicans are one of the rock bottom teams in the league, sitting at 15th place in the Western Conference with a 4-22 record.

Those news wouldn't sound so bad if they held the rights of their 2026 first round selection.

That's not the case though, as they have traded that pick to the Atlanta Hawks during the NBA Draft 2025.

Pelicans traded up 10 spots to pick Derik Queen and among others, also included their next year's first round selection.

As John Hollinger reports, it looks like Pelicans had no idea what pick they were sending to Georgia:

"One of the things that I have been told about this trade is that the New Orleans Pelicans didn't even understand what they were trading," Hollinger started.

"Pelicans had no idea, but the Atlanta Hawks did, because they had Bryson Graham in their front office, who had just come out from New Orleans."
