Previously, we took at a look at the best right and left sided attacking partnerships in the Premier League – today, we’ll be looking at those who move through the centre of the pitch.
We’ll be taking a look at two kinds of partnerships for this list. Attacking midfield and striker relationships will be considered, as will striker partnerships. However, players pushed wide – even if they are still technically attacking midfielders – will not be taken in consideration.
We have seen plenty of partnerships across history that could’ve qualified for this list, had they been contemporaneous. Andy Cole and Dwight Yorke spring to mind, as do Thierry Henry and Dennis Bergkamp.
Enzo Le Fee & Wilson Isidor
Everyone had Sunderland to finish rock bottom of the Premier League table this season – however, the Black Cats have been flying, largely thanks to the efforts of Wilson Isidor and Enzo Le Fee.
While Le Fee sometimes plays in a deeper role, thanks to the tactical fluidity of Black Cats boss Regis Le Bris, he is at his best when occupying the number ten position.
Le Fee’s creativity allows Isidor to find himself in goalscoring positions on the regular – so far, Isidor has scored four Premier League goals this season.
Mikkel Damsgaard & Igor Thiago
Mikkel Damsgaard and Igor Thiago have been surprising audiences this season. Many audiences thought Brentford would struggle in 2025/26 – instead, they have thrived.
Thiago is currently the second-top goalscorer in the Premier League – only Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has mustered more goals than this in the current season.
Damsgaard’s goal contributions have been far more scant, but he is very important to the Bees’ setup. Keith Andrews has curated an outfit that like to focus on set-pieces – as their standard set-piece taker, Damsgaard is crucial to their approach.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin & Lukas Nmecha
In today’s game, striker partnerships are growing increasingly rare. Effective striker partnerships are rarer still – but Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Lukas Nmecha have developed a strong understanding at Leeds United.
Calvert-Lewin had a desperately tough start to the season, but he has now scored three goals in his last three Premier League games. Leeds’ defence is enormously leaky, but with Calvert-Lewin in form, they can outscore anyone.
Nmecha is currently injured, but has nonetheless has been an excellent signing, scoring four goals in 14 Premier League appearances.
Georginio Rutter & Danny Welbeck
Did anyone expect Danny Welbeck to have a sudden career resurgence this season at Brighton? We certainly didn’t – nor did we think he would form such an effective partnership with Georginio Rutter.
Previously a centre-forward, Rutter has been converted into an attacking midfielder at Brighton, where he provides an excellent creative presence.
So far this season, Welbeck has scored seven Premier League goals. Meanwhile, Rutter has only scored one goal, but also has three assists to his name.
Eberechi Eze & Viktor Gyokeres
This one was always going to occupy the top spot. Eberechi Eze has been phenomenal since he joined Arsenal – Viktor Gyokeres hasn’t been quite as spectacular, but has still performed an admirable job.
While Eze has been shunted out wide on a few occasions, he is at his best when playing through the middle. He lacks the pace that you would expect to see in a winger, but his fantastic ball control and range of passing make him perfect for the number ten role.
Gyokeres is a battering ram of a forward – his job isn’t necessarily to score goals, rather, he is in the team to put pressure on defenders. So far, the Swedish international has scored four goals this season, while Eze has also scored four.
