Jamie Carragher has taken a swipe at ex-Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand after the latter’s post on X regarding Mohamed Salah’s performance for Liverpool on Saturday.
The former England teammates have clashed on several occasions in recent months and Ferdinand has made a number of digs at Carragher’s expense this week following the fallout from Salah’s bombshell interview at Leeds United last week.
Carragher was highly critical of Salah for his remarks in the Elland Road mixed zone, and labeled him “selfish” on Sky Sports before claiming the Egyptian was trying to get Arne Slot sacked. The 47-year-old also addressed the matter during CBS’ midweek Champions League coverage and via his weekly Telegraph blog, stating in the latter that Liverpool fans will always side with a head coach over a rebellious player.
However, there was little to find fault with on Saturday, as Salah returned to the team and put in an excellent display in the Reds’ 2-0 home win over Brighton & Hove Albion.
The match ended with Salah being serenaded by Anfield as the winger took in what some viewed as a lap of honor. This is his final match before departing for the Africa Cup of Nations, although given the speculation surrounding his future, some speculated it was perhaps a final goodbye to the Liverpool fans.
Either way, Ferdinand saw the support he was afforded as another opportunity to take a pop at Carragher.
“Thoughts @Carra23? “Mo Salah” being sung by the Kop,” he wrote on X.
Carragher replied: “And rightly so, he was fantastic when he came on. Thoughts on the price of the World Cup tickets @rioferdy5.
“A man of the people would surely call @FIFAcom & Infantino out. Or was your pay packet for the draw (acting) to buy your silence?”
The response was in reference to Ferdinand’s claims that he is a “man of the people” when asked about the controversial costs of World Cup tickets, while his performance in last week’s draw for the tournament was widely criticized for several cringeworthy moments.
Ferdinand responded with a fishhook emoji, indicating he had immaturely sought to wind Carragher up.

The one-time Premier League center-backs have locked horns over social media repeatedly this year. In February, Carragher called Ferdinand a “clown” and said he was “playing to the gallery” in response to his comments over the Africa Cup of Nations.
The ex-United star wrote on X a few weeks later that Carragher was “having a bad couple weeks” following criticism of Bayern Munich.
Ferdinand also claimed on social media this week that Carragher was “getting all worked up” about Salah, before mentioning him celebrating Liverpool’s win over Inter Milan on Tuesday and jokingly requesting the footage from CBS.
Carragher reshared Ferdinand’s “man of the people” interview this week in the wake of the exorbitant World Cup ticket prices being released, and reacted with laughter and bag of money emojis when the original interview was shared on X.
