'Noticeable': Shearer thinks Slot said something significant about Mo Salah and Liverpool after Brighton win

Mo Salah eased some of the narrative around his Liverpool future after coming off the bench to help the Reds beat Brighton on Saturday.

It has been a turbulent week for the Egyptian, who made some explosive comments which quickly went around the world after last week’s draw with Leeds.

Salah was subsequently left out of Tuesday’s game against Inter Milan, with Arne Slot and Liverpool seemingly strengthening their hand by winning at San Siro.

Slot suggested he felt Salah should apologise when speaking after the Inter victory, and the fact that the veteran was restored at Anfield on Saturday may indicate that he has.

However, after watching the Liverpool head coach speak following another win for his team, Alan Shearer has claimed that he isn’t so sure Slot did actually get the outcome he wanted.

Alan Shearer not convinced Mo Salah has apologised

All eyes were on Salah at the end of Saturday’s match in case he made some kind of grand goodbye gesture on the Anfield pitch.

Salah saluted the Kop for a little longer than usual, but there was no concrete indication that this was his last appearance for Liverpool.

Nevertheless, although the legendary forward did look much happier this weekend, Shearer thought it was ‘noticeable’ that Slot dodged questions about whether he had received an apology from Salah this week.

“I don’t think it’s going to go away as much as Arne Slot and Liverpool would want it to,” the pundit told BBC Match of the Day. “Because after the game on Tuesday Arne was quoted as saying ‘is he going to say sorry?’

“It was noticeable today in his interview afterwards he didn’t actually say whether he had. It’s settled down because he’s away now for AFCON so it will quieten down, but the quicker that [AFCON] comes to an end the questions will start again.”

What did Arne Slot actually say?

Slot is absolutely right to want an apology from Salah over his behaviour after the Leeds debacle.

The Egyptian may have raised some legitimate points, but the way he went about it, after such a difficult moment for the team, was downright disrespectful. Slot and the Liverpool squad deserved a ‘sorry’ at the very least.

But when asked for details of Friday’s conversation between him and his star man, Slot instead claimed that his decision to bring Salah on so early into the game was evidence enough of a truce.

“What has been said between the two of us in that conversation stays between us,” he said. “And I think what you see is what you get to know, and that was that he was in the squad and my first substitution.

“All of the other things that have been said in that conversation, I never speak about when I speak to Virgil or Mo or any other player. I never tell you guys what we talk about.”
